چکیده

Introductions to Philosophy There are many good introductions to philosophy: [21], [51] and [1] have the advantage of being short and cheap. There are a few books [42, 10, 33] that introduce philosophical ideas by analysing films which raise philosophical issues. One of the advantages of these books is that they allow you to say that you are doing valuable research for this module while watching one of the films they discuss. Amongst the films discussed in these books are: The Matrix, Total Recall, Memento, Gattaca, Hilary and Jackie, The Seventh Seal, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Frankenstein, Blade Runner and Lord of the Rings.

Philosophy of Cognitive Science ( 06 - 02483 ) Philosophy Handout ( 2007 – 2008 )

There are many different kinds of philosophy. For example, there is Indian philosophy (which has its roots in the ancient body of oral tradition known as the Veda), Islamic philosophy, Japanese philosophy and Chinese philosophy. Consider the argument shown in Fig. 1 (based on one found in Moser’s book Empirical Justification (1985), p. 23). What would make this a justification of the statement, ‘Swimming is going to be dangerous today’? For it to be a justification the argument wo...

Those working on the MIT Cog Project are more explicit [3]: Building an android, an autonomous robot with human...

In this paper, we will use a cognitive model called LIDA (Franklin 2007), derived from Global Workspace Theory (Baars 1988, 1997) and based on recent theories from psychology, neuroscience and cognitive science, to develop our hypothesis of th...

The importance of navigation support and reading order on hypertext learning and cognitive load

Problems in hypertext learning seem to relate with high levels of cognitive load that learners suffer during hypertext reading. One important factor that can increases cognitive load is the number of links per page (DeStefano & LeFevre, 2007). Several navigation support techniques, such as link suggestions, have been proposed to reduce cognitive load. In an experiment we tested the effects of n...
